From Jakarta to Saskatchewan: Ammar and Faigan Join Notre Dame Hounds

In August 2026, Ammar Saputro (2009) and Faigan Alghani (2009) made an important decision in their hockey careers and embarked on a new journey overseas. Both players were accepted to play for the Notre Dame Hounds U18 team and enrolled at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Ammar and Faigan were part of the very first generation of Golden Cobras players when the academy was established in 2024. Through countless hours of hard work and training, they quickly grew into young, ambitious adults.

They were part of the historic Team Indonesia that won the country's first ever Gold Medal at the 2025 SEA Games. But they didn't stop there. In April 2026, Ammar was named Captain and Faigan Assistant Captain of Team Indonesia at the U18 Asia Cup in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. And they wanted to challenge themselves even further - the next step was Notre Dame.

"Athol Murray College of Notre Dame shares the same values as Golden Cobras. We want to develop good, responsible, and disciplined people, and hockey is the tool we use to do that. Becoming a great hockey player is not as important as becoming the best person you can be. Notre Dame stands for exactly the same thing." - Coach Brandon, hockey advisor to Ammar and Faigan

According to Coach Brandon, the biggest advantage of playing in Canada is a robust hockey program that is fully integrated with school. Playing competitive hockey doesn't mean compromising academic ambition and success. On top of that, players get the opportunity to play 30-40 competitive, full-contact games in a season - something that is not yet possible in Indonesia.

Ammar and Faigan are not the first. Back in September 2024, Golden Cobras player Sam Hioe (2011) moved to Canada to play for Delta Hockey Academy in Vancouver, British Columbia. Coach Brandon also acted as his advisor, guiding him and his family through the try-out and enrollment process, all the way to signing with Delta Hockey Academy.

Golden Cobras has now successfully sent three players from Indonesia to prestigious hockey schools in Canada. We hope to continue this momentum and to put more Indonesian players in the international spotlight. Good luck Ammar and Faigan - make us proud. Until the next one.
